### Smart Contract as software

One way to think about a Smart Contract as (1) an independent, autonomous software program that (2) acts as an intermediary or go-between, between two or more parties to a deal.

### Smart Contract as contract

 A Smart Contract is a contract where both parties agree that some or all of the performance of the contract will be managed by an independent software agent
